Turning back the years in wonderful Brittany

Back in the day, when I was a little whippersnapper, most of my summer holidays abroad involved jumping on the Seacat
at Dover, crossing the channel, and driving down to South Brittany to spend a couple of weeks in France. Most of these holidays were spent at ‘Lossie’s house’, a gorgeous golden Labrador that, at my tender age, was one of the highlights of trip and I used to look forward to seeing Lossie every year upon arrival. When I was about ten, our family stopped heading down to Brittany, in favour of other types of holiday. However, I recently turned back the years and returned to Brittany, to spend a week in the French countryside in a beautiful villa. There are a huge amount of quality villas in France – the rural nature of Brittany means the majority of buildings are fairly large, great for the holiday-maker. And they don’t break the bank either – Northern France is a lot cheaper than the slightly sunnier, hotter, more up-market South but you get so much more for your money

The villa we stayed in had four large bedrooms, three bathrooms, a huge living area and good size kitchen. The highlight, however, was the 20 metre long swimming pool in the beautifully kept garden round the back. The kids loved it,
and I felt a strange sense of déjà vu, seeing them playing in the pool just as I had done all those years ago. Another benefit
of the villa was that a charismatic French village lay just a ten minute walk away, meaning it was just a short walk in the morning to go and pick up my chocolate croissants and baguettes for the day. This particular villa really hit the spot – with so many villas to choose from across France, there should be one for you no matter what your demands .....
